MythMakers 53 A Tribute to Patrick Troughton |
A Review by Stuart Gutteridge 24/6/02
"Patrick was an intensely private person,so I was amazed when he started attending conventions!"
Choosing to concentrate on Patrick Troughton throughout his tenure as The Doctor, this Myth Makers release is made compulsive viewing by virtue of the interview footage of him at a convention. It manages to delve into what sort of actor he was, how he approached the role and what he put into it. What it doesn`t do is reveal any more about Patrick Troughton, the man. There is no interview footage, with either of his sons for example, so we only get one side of the story; there are no personal anecdotes. Nothing is really made of his career outside of Doctor Who, such as his appearances in the likes of The Omen or The Box Of Delights. There doesn`t seem to be any need for Nick Briggs to be present either, as the tape would`ve worked without him. All in all, the tape doesn`t tell the Doctor Who fan anything they didn`t already know and would`ve worked better concentrating on the life of Patrick Troughton and not just his time in the show.
