A Review by Stuart Gutteridge 8/12/98

As another addition to "The Years" series of video releases, it would appear that this is probably the worst of them. In itself, The Pertwee Years wasn`t a bad idea, but given the wealth of information readily available, it does seem a little stale. To be fair, this isn`t down to Jon Pertwee, who does a fine job as an enthusiastic and candid presenter. What is wrong is the fact that much of the tapes content has been seen before.

There are clips from The Five Doctors, Spearhead From Space, and the concluding episodes of Frontier In Space, Inferno and The Daemons (albeit in black and white, but at least you can compare this with the recolourised video release.)

Jon talks genuinely about his co-stars, in particular Nicholas Courtney and Roger Delgado, and how much he enjoyed working with them. But there are no new revelations here. The only items of interest are the appearance on Blue Peter in 1973 of the Whomobile alongside Jon and Peter Purves, footage from the Longleat Convention in 1983, and footage of various unused title sequences, accompanied by the Delaware theme.

As a tape, this is only really for completists, although new fans of the show might also find it interesting.
