Some while ago, I attempted a rice dish from a recipe book. However, during the course of making said dish, I made the mistake of using beef broth instead of chicken broth (long story there, too) and after the dish was said and done, it wasn’t terribly good. I was talking with my sister on the phone that day and she said to freeze it and maybe it would taste better later on. Yesterday, I took the leftovers out of the freezer and decided to make the rice edible. The solution? Make fried rice.
So, after I put in my usual favorite ingredients (including some tofu that’s just this side of edible) and enough soy sauce to choke a horse, I ended up with a fairly edible concoction. Go me! Even Leo liked it. (Turns out he loves tofu. Go figure.) This is the first ever fried rice I’ve had which has beef broth and Parmesan in it, I will admit… But I ended up with 5 portions out of it, so left overs for trina! Yay!
Digger also likes tofu. No idea why. Widget doesn’t; she turns her nose up at anything that isn’t obviously meat or cheese.
Love the picture — trying to figure out what Sylv is trying to do in it. There’s a lot to be said for by guess and by gosh cooking. No telling what good will come of it…
Gurning – something he seems to be rather gifted at. It just seemed to be right to put Sylv’s most lovestruck character (the Butler Crud from Ghoul Lashed) on my Valentine heart. Of course, it was even more appropriate to use one of his silliest expressions. 🙂

Going pretty well, I suppose — how about you? I just finally created a livejournal account, since practically everybody I know has one and often sends me links to threads here. So, I started looking around at friends’ friends lists and their interests, and one of them had Doctor Who as an interest, so I clicked that, and saw “drwhochat” and thought, “Gee, is that the same group as way back when?” Sure enough… Let’s see, quick recap of the last eight years… Met a local girl (LJ username penelopecat) seven years ago, we’re engaged now finally but dunno when we’ll be able to do the whole wedding thing (can’t afford to live together anywhere until she’s on her own two feet, financially speaking). Living in Morgan Hill, California now, just outside of San Jose. Worked for a major computer retailer full time, then only part time as I went full time for a dot-com, which succombed to the crash, so went back to the store full time, and next week am starting to work part time at the store again in order to work for another dot-com from home. Still riding motorcycles, though this new job will require me to drive a four-wheeled vehicle occasionally, so I’ll finally have to get a car class license. Once I get off my butt and record the initial bit for an animation test, I’ll be providing the voice for a friend’s cartoon character which is part of a television show idea (entire 36-episode story arc already outlined) she hopes will find a producer someday. In 1999, I began to write music again. Still not as much as I’d like. how about you? Things be good in trinaland! As you might infer from my various LJ posts, I have a cat named Leo who’s the delight of my life. (As furry as Spigi’s cat, Felicity, was.) I’m teaching at my alma mater. I’ve been to England 6 times (and Oz & NZ once). And I’m listening to Monty Python. Things are good indeed. 🙂 I’ll listen to your ragtime music when I get the chance – thanks for sharing! And good luck with the animation voice work. 🙂 It’s especially cool that you and penelopecat are finally engaged. I seem to remember reading about you two YEARS ago. 🙂 Congrats!
Wow, that’s a lot of travel! Leo looks a lot like my cat Pepper. He was a character. He’d disappear for a week then show up like nothing had happened (occasionally you could see him hunting out in the fields). He liked to nibble your earlobe and lick your neck. And frequently he’d completely take over your pillow while you tried to sleep but couldn’t because he’d purr VERY LOUDLY directly into your ear… I had completely lost track of the Doctor Who world, then one night I flipped to TechTV and it was the end of The Screen Savers. Leo Laporte off-handedly said, “And they’re putting Doctor Who back into production!” which got no response from anybody, but it got my attention. I went to the BBC’s DW page and wow, was I amazed at all the stuff going on (as well as finding the news about a new TV production). I liked the Dead Ringers clips, especially the one with Sylvester McCoy. The poor guy had no idea that it wasn’t Tom Baker calling him, and couldn’t figure out why “Tom” wouldn’t go out of character. But I sat and watched Out of Time, and the remake of Shada (sorry, McGann fangirls, but Tom Baker seemed to perform the lines so much better — then again, they were written for him), and kept up with Scream of the Shalka … but obviously I’ve missed a lot; seeing the Master as an android inside the Doctor’s TARDIS was quite a surprise. I had no idea there were so many new audio productions and so on as well. It seems that some “lost” episodes have been recovered also … ? The photonovels are neat (only went through The Highlanders and The Underwater Menace thus far), and I should play my tapes of the “lost” episode audios while flipping through them. You know, there still are several “lost” episode audiotapes which I’ve never listened to, even though I’ve had them for over 10 years, since back when very few people actually possessed them? I just never got round to listening to them all! I’m horrible, I know…

I didn’t care much for Shada. Then again, I think part of it is that I didn’t care much for the original story. I got bored. Am I allowed to describe something of Douglas Adams’ as boring? Probably not! McGann is fun to listen to, but I’ve yet to be wowed by any of the audios I’ve heard with him in it. I’m horrible, I know… Dunno, sounds like you have a life, or something silly like that. That doesn’t make you a horrible person, I assure you. Many people have lives and are perfectly tolerable in small doses. 🙂
Eeek – replying to my own reply… But I wanted to clarify something I said: I’ve yet to be wowed by any of the audios I’ve heard with him in it. I’d like to say that I meant Doctor Who audios. McGann’s reading of Vurt is what turned me into a Jeff Noon fan. It’s BRILLIANT. And just hearing McGann pronounce f*ck is worth the price of the tapes.
