8 Hour Days?!?

I dunno how people can work 8 hour days during the summer… Summer is a time for goofing off. Work if you have to, but, man, 8 hours? (Spoken like a true teacher…. Where during the school year, we would KILL for an 8 hour day.)

But, despite my lazy summertime ass, I did work 8 hours today. I had a goal and, unfortunately, to meet that goal, I had to keep on working. Alas, Clean Slate still isn’t working, but I called and they said they’d sent my e-mail on to the developer. Gee, that’s pretty, um, powerful. Hope they can get a fix for this – the teachers will not be happy if the computers give them a BSD every time they shut down.

So tomorrow I have a goal as well. (You’d think I’d’ve learned my lesson today, wouldn’t you?) I’m going to finish 2 rooms tomorrow (gah!) and maybe I’ll remember my headphones so that I can listen to the latest Big Finish audio. I have 11 more days available for working (though I have more than enough hours available – I’ll run out of days before I run out of hours and if that’s confusing, I can explain it if you’d like). Sheesh – 11 days to get the rest of the school ready. I think I’ll just curl up in a ball until August 25th…

  1. I envy the American system of haveing a WHOLE summer off. In Australia, these short two week holidays during the year are just enough to get you out of schooltime routine, but not enough to relax. The only actual substantial chunk of holidays we have is near christmas. Grr. /end holiday gripe. O.o Random sylv pics are so wonderfully…Odd!

    1. Heh – I hate to say it, but I’ve always envied your 2 week breaks… I think the biggest annoyance that I have about summer vacation is that, well, it takes place during summer. When all of the attractions are so full of tourists and stuff. I’d love to go to England in September or Florida in October or something like that. Still, while I’ve got my summers off, I’ll do what I can to enjoy the dickens out of ’em. 🙂

    1. That makes perfect sense to me. Earlier in the summer, I was doing what I could to work only 4 day weeks. Now the crunch is on, however, so it’s whenever and how long as it takes. (And I’ve still got to finish getting my lab ready for next year.) I’d envy the English teachers, except that they have to grade compositions during the school year. Lab reports are enough work, IMO!

  2. What’s this I hear? I work a 9 hour day (or more), usually without break, six days a week. I’ve heard of this thing called “vacation” but never experienced it.

    1. It’s a wonderful thing, “vacation.” I think everyone should experience it at least once in their lives. Of course, with “vacation” comes responsibility… It’s very demanding sitting in a deck chair by the pool and sipping amaretto sours, I tell ya!
