Yesterday, I was playing City of Heroes without a hitch. I wasn’t getting knocked off of the networks and had no trouble signing in. But dammit, today it downloads Yet Another Fricking Update and once again, it locks up when I go to logon. It’s like it’s an on-again off-again program. And it’s bleeding off again!
I would love to like this game. I would like to love this game. But it’s been nothing but a pain in the ass for me since I installed it. It protested that I didn’t have up to date drivers. So I updated the drivers and it liked me again – only Diablo hated me with the new drivers. I found drivers in between the two ages and both games decided they could live with me. But then it updates itself and I can’t play it. But then it updates itself and I can. But while I’m playing it, the servers keep disconnecting on me. ARGH! So now it’s back to not letting me log in. Stupid stupid stupid!
I really can’t see myself subscribing to it when my 60 day card expires. Damn, stupid game! *sniff*
I wish I knew what to suggest… when my PC was alive (its currently in a corner of the bedroom, sulking) it never gave me any grief with the game. Towards the end everything else played up mind… but… hrm. Don’t know what to suggest… anything on the support forums to help? you could always try contacting NCSoft. they’re usually pretty good to help.
I took a look at the Support page after reading gordon_r_d‘s and your comments. With what they said in the FAQ and my own observations, I found the biggest culprit was my dear old Zone Alarm. I think I’ve at least go the login problem sorted now. And will just try to play during off peak times (like right after school and not Saturday night). Thanks for the level head and good suggestions!
I dunno why you’re having so many problems with it, I’ve been disconnected a grand total of twice over three months and only ever once had a problem logging in. I’d suggest getting in touch with NCSoft support or something, because if me and Simon have no trouble playing it in the UK, you should be able to play it over there. It’d be a shame if you had to give up on it, because it really is a wonderful game.
I think my connection problems are simply because the times when I can play the game are the times when most Merkans are on. Still, you’d think having to pay for the connectivity would be more servers and less problems at peak times. (When we play Diablo online during peak times, we rarely notice any troubles. However, there’s a LOT more that the CoH servers must do, from what I can tell of the game.) I gave it a second chance after reading ravenevermore‘s and your comments. Found the biggest hang up during that trial time, which I’ll report in another post. Thanks for the level head and sensible comments. 🙂
