I think I may finally have made my final step into the 21st century. After getting a cell phone and a laptop, I have now subscribed to digital cable. In a way, I find it rather hilarious to have signed up for something that I probably won’t watch a lot of. However, it’s only about $5 more than the exorbitant fee I’m already paying for regular cable, so I think it’ll be worth it. Of course, the first channel that I switched to was BBC America. Yay! And what’s playing? At Home with the Braithwaites – Peter Davison, yay!
(Well, I lie, I found the game show network first, but they had commercials playing, so then I searched further down and found BBCA.)
Dunno if this will get me watching “live” TV again or not. Perhaps with my laptop & BBCA, I’ll just have the bestest time in the living room. 🙂
What season are they on? (It went four seasons.) I watched it all the way to the end of season 4 last year (when BBC-A was running it at 7 p.m. on Saturdays). It’s great fun, right to the end.
No idea. They were in court when I saw what I saw. Regarding the legitimacy of the lottery ticket being bought by a 12-year old girl.

What amused me: on the same day “At Home with the Brathwaites” took over the 4PM slot–replacing “Jonathan Creek”–in the 5PM slot, “Monarch of the Glen” cycled around to the beginning of Tom Baker’s run in the series. Of course, my immediate thought was that they needed to flip the times, so Tom came on at 4 and Peter at 5. 😉

I’m surprised that there was no mention in your blog about the Ohio Board of Education rolling back teaching intelligent design. I do want to thank you. Ever since you brought that to my attention four years ago I have become enthralled in the debate and an ardent supporter of evolution and science.
Yay! You have an LJ! As for the BOE ruling – well, it’s one of the first times the state of Ohio has done something RIGHT WRT education. But I’m more likely to focus on the wrongs that it’s done (mostly regarding school funding) that I’d probably just turn the post into a mass of angry gibbering that doesn’t actually mean anything. It was interesting when a co-worker recently discussed ID with my father, who’s both a scientist and a Biblical scholar. The co-worker was WAY out of his league. But the conversation was very civil. And we realized that this co-worker will not be able to rectify evolution (and a number of other scientific facts) with his religious beliefs. Thankfully, he has a body of friends who hold similar beliefs, so he won’t be alone.
Bizarrely, At Home With the Braithwaites was the programme I was watching when I realised that my new digital cable could (and should) be set to widescreen. The picture looked so cramped, so I went a-fiddlin’ and found the 4:3 letterbox setting. Seriously, widescreen is the way to go folks!
Hmmmm, widescreen setting. I’ll have to see if my digital cable has that as well. I was showing a movie to one of my little cousins once and had a choice of showing widecreen or fullscreen. I explained to her that widescreen allows you to see everything that the director intended you to see, so we went ahead and watched the movie widescreen. Another time when we were watching DVDs, she insisted that we watch them widescreen. So yay! I converted another one to the cause! 🙂
Heehee… This reminds me of when I switched from “analogue” satellite to “digital” satellite. (Honestly though, to me there doesn’t seem to be a difference, since all satellite TV is “digital” anyway…). First thing I did after I was upgraded (which was just replacing a box) was find the remote, sit down in my armchair, and then play with the “channel up/down” button for the best part of 3 hours going through every single channel available to me for a few minutes per channel… Before you say anything: yes, I’m easily amused. 🙂
