Lucky Lucky Lavender, my foot!

Well, actually, it’s Dim Sum Plum on my feet and Lucky Lucky Lavender on my fingers…

In anticipation of the cruise that we’re going on starting Sunday (wow, already?!?), mom and I went to get our toenails & fingernails dun up purty. Miami Jacobs college has a beauty salon/spa thingy within walking distance of mom’s place, so after the Tastefully Simple party at M&D’s complex last night, I spent the night. And this morning, mom & I walked to the salon for our pedicures & manicures.

Although I have put fingernail polish on myself before (and I think someone else), it’s been years & years. And I’ve never gotten a manicure or pedicure. So today was quite a treat. But due to my lack of experience, I boogered up my fingernails on several occasions. Before we left the salon, I screwed up both thumbs and my right pointer finger. They fixed ’em and mom & I headed out.

Except… Well, they had this dish of peppermints on the desk. I was quite sure I could reach in and get one without screwing up my nails… And I would have been successful, too, had one of the peppermints not jumped onto my right pointer finger. I was too embarrassed to have them repair it, so mom squished it as best as she could when we got home, but we decided if we could find some Lucky Lucky Lavender O.P.I. nail polish, I’d buy some. (The salon was on their last bottle & almost out as it was.)

We did a bit of shopping at Kohl’s where I found a more formal looking shirt & some dressy t-shirts for the cruise. And at Kroger, we found some Lucky Lucky Lavender (after trying 2 other nail shops to no avail). Mom fixed up my nail & went outside to relax & read. And before 5 minutes was up, I’d boogered it up again! I wasn’t trying to, it just happened!. So she tried again, and this time I managed to avoid touching it before it had dried completely.

Basically, I suck at fingernail polishing! (Toes, OTOH, seem to be just fine.) We’re taking the LLL & Dim Sum Plum on the cruise with us, in case we need to reapply during the cruise. Hopefully not…

I imagine my communication once the cruise has begun will be sporadic at best. I’m still debating whether to take my Dell Mini on the trip (I’d like to keep a diary of the trip and that would be an easy way), but even if I do, wifi likely costs moolah onboard so I won’t get on often to update. No idea if my cell phone will work abroad, so might not even be texting tweets. (But if I can, I will. Even if they are 50 cents each.)

So y’all have fun this week! I know I’m going to!

  1. Interesting choice of self-pampering. Did you pick the colour, or did the experts know what’d go well with the rest of you? Take the laptop! Writing a journal with a pen is so, liek, yesterday 😛 Ah, fingernail polish, I used to create ‘art’ on Mum’s fingers and toes when I was a little’un. Couldn’t stand it on myself, though – I guess it is all the arts I do, I just can’t stand to have anything on my hands that could conceivably smudge onto paper.

    1. I picked the colors. I think they look OK. Manicures/pedicures are not something that I’ll do often, however. But the massage-aspects were quite nice. Y’know, once this stuff is dry, it ain’t coming off of any paper, unless you do art on acetone-infused paper. 🙂 (And even then it’s reluctant.)

  2. Fingernail polishing takes practice. 😉 I still screw it up by touching things too soon, but even then it keeps my nails from breaking even if it looks a bit messy. I find that OPI lasts three days before it gets chippy and I have to take it off, and that includes doing work with my hands. I’m currently wearing Birthday Babe, and will probably switch to Royal Rajah Ruby before I go out.

    1. Fingernail polish people must have the most fun coming up with color names. Mom’s used one called “I am not a waitress” or something like that. Heh.

      1. I *love* that color! Srsly – I remember that one. Not a good one for me, but it’s a great color. I always get either a pale pink or clear on my hands so when it starts chipping it’s not noticeable. 🙂

    1. I think we shall! Now I’ll only have to be jealous of your cruising because you hang with a large group of skeptics. (Still, at least I have a small group of skeptics. Heh.)

  3. Glad you’ve got an outfit! I only offered so you wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂 I polished my own toenails last night (first time EVER) and it think it turned out pretty good. It’s just a sheer pink, so it isn’t very noticeable. I’m running like crazy getting ready to go. (I still have to work tonight and get the dogs to Tom’s, and finish packing, and decide which laptop I’m bringing.) I am going to bring a laptop, even if I don’t pay for wifi the whole time. I can conceive of a situation with the house here where someone might want to email me a picture for decision making purposes. So, I’d better have the hardware in hand to do that. 🙂 Can’t wait for tomorrow! See you tomorrow afternoon!

  4. LOL! I almost always mess up my nails before the day is out when I have a manicure. Luckily, the toes seem to survive. Have a wonderful cruise! It should be a terrific time. Do keep notes (don’t you always?) *bon voyage*
