Today, they started installing the shingles on the gables. It’s pretty nifty cuz the HardieShingles aren’t individual shakes but several on a “backbone” of more Hardie material. Still, when you’re doing Gables, you’re gonna have lots of little bits anyhoo. (And they did.)
In other good house news, the new front window and the back sliding door arrived today. They both look nice, but I was sad to see the sliding door doesn’t have a way of locking/unlocking from the outside. (An oversight which I hope we can rectify.) You’ll probably also note in the photos that the trim is being painted. (Beige will not be the color of the house when done…)

So I think the goal for tomorrow is to get the window & door in (since Friday I’ll be picking judiang up from the airport for a weekend at the Lake). I imagine they’ll get Gable 5 in as well.
Big difference! My sliding door doesn’t lock/unlock from the outside either.
The trouble being that I go from my garage to my back door a LOT. And I love P. Hill, but I ain’t leaving my back door unlocked when I go out. 🙂
Beige won’t be the color of the house when it’s done? What will the final color be? Because I have this crazy nostalgia for a house in the Berkeley Hills of California that was in the vicinity of the neighborhood where I lived until I was 3… it was a shade of turquoise that could be seen for miles, from the freeway. It was that shade for years. When I was last in the area, back in 1986, it had been repainted a staid, stoic beige. Darn it. 😉
Ah, the colors are a secret (though the trim is pretty obvious thanks to the photos I’ve posted so far). I wanted my house to have hints of the old (hence the shakes) but with some new, and the colors will reflect that, I hope. 🙂 It won’t be purple. There’s already a purple house in town, and once there’s one house that’s purple, any other purple houses are just wanna-bes.
