Cream together. Add hot water and vanilla. Slowly add dry ingredients, then mix in chips.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">Bake at 350-375&deg; for 6 or 7 minutes. Don&#8217;t over bake!<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><BR><\/P><P STYLE=\"text-indent: 0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\"><I>These cookies have been my favorite since I was a wee little child. It was Kathi Strong, I believe, who first called them Lindy cookies, since they are mom&#8217;s recipe. These are much better than store bought chocolate chip cookies and even better than Toll House cookies.<\/I><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><\/lj-cut><\/p>\n<p> <lj-cut text=\"Icebox Cookies\"><P ALIGN=CENTER STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in; page-break-before: always\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=4><B>Butterscotch Cookies<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P ALIGN=CENTER STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">(AKA Icebox Cookies)<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><BR><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">4cup brown sugar<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">1cup butter<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">4eggs<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">6&frac12;cup flour<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">1Tbsp soda<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.38in; text-indent: -0.13in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">1tsp cream of tartar<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><BR><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\">Mix sugar and butter, add eggs. Sift together (or mix with wire whisk)dry ingredients. Add to sugar mixture. Make into 1 or 2 loaves, set overnight in refrigerator. Slice into 70 cookies. Bake at 375&deg;for 10 minutes.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P STYLE=\"margin-left: 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><BR><\/P><P STYLE=\"text-indent: 0.25in; margin-bottom: 0in\"><FONT FACE=\"Verdana, sans-serif\"><FONT SIZE=2 STYLE=\"font-size: 11pt\"><I>Mom usually reserves the last &frac12; cup of flour for when she rolls the dough into loaves.
